Before ROOT44 became a travel company, it began with a place.
Istria.
A magical peninsula along Croatia’s Adriatic coast where medieval hilltop villages rise above vineyards and olive groves, where cultures have blended for centuries, and where extraordinary culinary traditions are still lovingly preserved.
Known as Croatia’s culinary heartland, Istria is a land of exceptional wines, world-class olive oils, incredible cuisine, and one of the world’s most treasured culinary discoveries — the Istrian truffle.
For many travellers, Istria is a destination to discover.
For my family, it is home.
A Heritage Rooted in the Land
My connection to Istria goes far beyond travel.
For five generations, my family has been connected to this land through truffle hunting, olive oil production, and a deep appreciation for the traditions and flavours that make this region extraordinary.
The ROOT44 name was inspired by Route 44 — the winding road that travels through the landscapes that shaped my family’s story: vineyards, olive groves, orchards, villages, and the forests where generations before me developed a respect for the land and its treasures.
This is where my love for authentic experiences began.

What started as a desire to share the magic of my homeland grew into a greater passion: creating meaningful ways for travellers to experience Europe.
Through ROOT44 Travel, I design and host intimate experiences throughout Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France, and beyond — connecting travellers with remarkable places, exceptional cuisine, local traditions, adventures, and the people who make each destination unforgettable.
